למה א' בניסן?
כתוב במסכת סופרים, פרק כ"א:
הלכה בּ' וְלָמָּה אֵין מִתְעַנִּין אוֹתָן בְּחֹדֶשׁ נִיסָן, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁבְּאֶחָד בְּנִיסָן הוּקַם הַמִּשְׁכָּן, וְיוּ"ד בֵּית נְשִׂיאִים הִקְרִיבוּ קָרְבָּנָם לְיוּ"ד בֵּית יוֹם, יוֹם לְכָל שֵׁבֶט וְשֵׁבֶט, וכָל אֶחָד הָיָה עוֹשֶׂה בְּיוֹמוֹ יוֹם טוֹב. וְכֵן, לֶעָתִיד לָבוֹא, עָתִיד הַמִּקְדָּשׁ לְהִבָּנוֹת בְּנִיסָן לְקַיֵּם מַה שֶּׁנֶּאֱמַר: "אֵין כָּל חָדָשׁ תַּחַת הַשָּׁמֶשׁ.(קהלת א')"
וכן כאן רואים את הקשר להנחת אבן הפינה של בית המקדש השלישי דווקא בחודש ובזמן מסוגל זה שחז"ל למדו שניסן היא ראש השנה למלכים וכן בניסן נגאלו ובניסן עתידים להיגאל.
הקמת המשכן בא' בניסן – היא התחלה חדשה של קיום מצוות בניית המקדש, והתגלות השכינה בישראל. ולכן נכון שהנחת אבן הפינה של בית המקדש השלישי תתרחש בחודש זה, כסמל לחידוש עבודת ה' כפי שהיה.
חנוכת המזבח על ידי הנשיאים – היות ואנו עסוקים בבניית המקדש, חשוב שהתהליך של חנוכת המקדש יהיה דומה לאיך שהיה חנוכת המשכן, וכמו כן, חלק מחנוכת בית המקדש השלישי יכלול הקרבת קורבנות על ידי מנהיגי ישראל בזמן המתאים.
א' בניסן היא זמן מסוגל לחנוכת המקדש השלישי – בדומה למשכן, שביום זה התחילה בו העבודה, לכן נכון שגם חנוכת בית המקדש השלישי תתרחש בתאריך זה, וכן הכנות חשובות כמו טכס הנחת אבן הפינה ייעשו ביום זה, כהמשך לקייום המצוות המתחדשות הקשר בין עם ישראל לה'.
הנחת אבן הפינה ומשמעותה – הרמב"ם (הלכות בית הבחירה) קובע שבית המקדש חייב להיבנות במקום הקבוע בהר הבית, ולכן פוסק שהבנייה תהיה בדרך טבעית, ויש לומר שיש צורך בהנחת אבן פינה. ייתכן שחז"ל רמזו לתהליך דומה למה שהיה במשכן – עם הכנות, קידוש מקום המזבח וחנוכת הכלים.
נבואות חגי ויחזקאל – נביאים אלו מדברים על "יום היסוד" של המקדש העתידי, וחז"ל דורשים על כך שזו תהיה התחלה חדשה לישראל ולעולם כולו.
מובן ממה שנאמר, שאם אבן הפינה של בית המקדש השלישי תונח באופן פיזי, ניתן לשער שתאריך כמו א' בניסן, שהוא ראש חודש ויום הקמת המשכן, יהיה בעל משמעות מיוחדת לכך.
וכן, אם הבית ירד מוכן מן השמים, עדיין זה לא פוטר אותנו מלהשתדל בבנינו ולקיים את מצות עשה מדאורייתא של ועשו לי מקדש ושכנתי בתוכם.
וכן לחנך חנוכת בית המקדש השלישי, בדרך הדומה לחנוכת המשכן בית ראשון ושני.

The event will take place, G-d willing, at the Western Wall, Jerusalem, the Holy Land.

Why on the 1st of Nissan?
The Talmudic text Masechet Sofrim (21:2) discusses the timing of the dedication of the Mishkan:
"Why do we not fast in the month of Nissan? Because on the first of Nissan, the Mishkan was established, and for twelve days, the twelve tribal leaders offered their sacrifices, each on their appointed day. Each day was considered a festival for that tribe. Likewise, in the future, the Beit HaMikdash is destined to be built in Nissan, fulfilling what is written: ‘There is nothing new under the sun’ (Ecclesiastes 1:9).”
This highlights the significance of the month of Nissan as a time for new beginnings and Divine revelation, making it the ideal moment to lay the cornerstone for the Third Beit HaMikdash.
The Significance of Nissan in Mishkan/Temple History:
The Mishkan was erected on the 1st of Nissan – symbolizing a fresh start and the manifestation of the Divine Presence in Israel.
The dedication of the altar by the tribal leaders – When the Third Temple is built, a similar dedication process should take place.
Future Fulfillment and the Third Beit HaMikdash
The Sages viewed the construction of the Mishkan and the Temples as defining moments in Jewish history, representing the Divine Presence dwelling among us.
Just as the Mishkan was inaugurated on the 1st of Nissan, it is correct that the Third Temple’s dedication will be on this day as well.
Laying the Cornerstone and Its Meaning
Rambam (Hilchot Beit HaBechirah) rules that the Beit HaMikdash must be built on its designated site on Har HaBayit (the Temple Mount). And Requires physical construction, laying the cornerstone is a vital step.
Prophecies of Chaggai and Yechezkel – These prophets speak of the “day of foundation” of the future Temple, hinting at a new spiritual beginning for Israel and the entire world.
According to the Third Beit HaMikdash requires physical construction, it makes sense that the 1st of Nissan, which marks the beginning of Temple service in the past, would be a fitting date to lay its cornerstone.
Even if the Temple descends from Heaven fully built, we still have an obligation to prepare for it and fulfill the mitzvah of "And they shall make for Me a sanctuary, and I shall dwell among them" (Exodus 25:8), and dedicate it properly—just as was done with the Second Temple in the days of Ezra, and even more so in our times.
May we merit to take part in the rebuilding of the Beit HaMikdash, Amen!
